Child Development course overview.The Child Development course is a two year GCSE taken in Years 10 and 11. For those students interested in a career working with babies, young children or nursing it is ideal as a first qualification. Some of the areas studied include physical, social, intellectual, emotional development of children, the family, how to care for an expectant mother, preparing for a newborn and feeding. The course consists of a child case study where the student observes a child over a period of time, two smaller coursework tasks and a written examination.
