EnglishAn IntroductionTeachers within the English department are firmly committed to raising the achievements of all students, by developing their communication skills through a wide range of enjoyable and purposeful activities. We strongly believe that this aim is best served by offering a variety of speaking, listening, reading and writing activities. We believe that this integrated approach enables students to develop as confident communicators. The English Department aims to ensure that all students learn to communicate well through speaking and writing. We want our students to understand, enjoy, experience and respond imaginatively to a variety of texts. Work in English includes creative and factual writing. Students will respond to prose, poetry and drama. All work is based on the National Curriculum for Key Stage 3 and 4. We include ICT based, dramatic, artistic and group activities within our lessons to keep them varied, and to motivate our students. Language skills, both written and verbal are key to communication and therefore essential to any future career. Our aim is for English to be recognised not only as a useful and core subject, but one where both learning and enjoyment occur.
